WoW Forever best class

Ranked by real change vs Classic · 466 talent slots counted · client export beta-20260924

Why "best" means "most changed" (for now)

The honest caveat

The beta runs to October 21, 2026 and tuning is still moving — no sims, no raid logs, no tier lists worth the pixels. What is already final-ish is the talent data: every class's trees, counted slot by slot against Classic Era. That is a real, checkable signal for the question that actually matters when picking a main: how much of this class will I be learning fresh?

How the ranking is computed

Every talent slot in the live beta trees is counted as new, changed, moved or identical vs Classic Era, plus the Classic talents each tree lost. The churn score is the sum — higher means the class drifted further from vanilla. The same numbers drive the class changes page and every calculator.

All 9 classes, ranked by churn

Most-reworked first. "Untouched" is the share of slots identical to Classic Era.

Class by class

  • Warlock

    19 new · 28 changed · 3 moved · 17 removed · 4% untouched

The deepest rework in the beta: 19 brand-new talents, 17 Classic talents gone, and only 2 of 52 slots untouched. Affliction even gets its new toys early — Malediction and Soul Harvesting sit in row 2, so it levels as fresh as it ends.

  • Paladin

    18 new · 24 changed · 4 moved · 12 removed · 8% untouched

The biggest pile of new toys: 18 new talents, and Paladin finally exists on the Horde as Undead. Holy Conduit lands in Retribution row 2, early enough to shape leveling.

  • Druid

    14 new · 32 changed · 1 moved · 10 removed · 8% untouched

Not the most new talents, but the most rewritten — 32 of 51 slots carry changed text or values, so every spec plays differently from Classic even where names survived. Balance opens Genesis in row 1.

  • Warrior

    10 new · 35 changed · 1 moved · 9 removed · 13% untouched

The most touched in absolute terms (35 changed slots) but the new talents all sit row 3 and deeper — rows 1–2 level exactly like Classic, and the rework cashes out at 25+.

  • Shaman

    12 new · 29 changed · 4 moved · 8 removed · 10% untouched

Now an Alliance class too (Dwarf Shaman). Enhancement gets Mental Dexterity in row 2 and the tree churn is mid-pack — changed enough to need a fresh look, stable enough to trust your instincts.

  • Hunter

    14 new · 25 changed · 2 moved · 10 removed · 18% untouched

Human Hunters exist now. Three specs each get a new row 1–2 talent (Focused Fire, Careful Aim, Improved Tracking), making it the easiest class to feel the Forever changes while leveling.

  • Priest

    13 new · 29 changed · 0 moved · 7 removed · 21% untouched

A quiet headline: Fear Ward and Devouring Plague became baseline for every Priest, and Discipline opens three new row 1–2 talents. 11 slots untouched keeps the Classic core intact.

  • Rogue

    9 new · 30 changed · 1 moved · 7 removed · 25% untouched

The least reworked of the churny classes — 13 slots untouched and mostly value retunes, with Dirty Tricks (row 2 Subtlety) as the notable new early pick.

  • Mage

    6 new · 31 changed · 3 moved · 1 removed · 26% untouched

The Classic faithful: 14 of 54 slots untouched, only 6 new talents and a single removal. If you want the vanilla muscle memory with the lightest Forever touch, this is it.

Questions about the best class in WoW Forever

Is there a best class in WoW Forever? +

Nobody can honestly crown one yet — the beta runs until October 21, 2026, tuning is still moving, and no combat logs or sims exist. What the data can tell you is how much each class actually changed: Warlock is the deepest rework at 19 new and 17 removed talents, while Mage is the closest to Classic with 26% of its talents untouched. Pick by appetite for change, then test in the calculator.

Which class changed the most in WoW Forever? +

Warlock. Of its 52 talent slots, only 2 survived Classic Era untouched, and 17 Classic talents are gone outright — the biggest churn of all 9 classes. Warlock has the most brand-new talents (19), and Warrior has the most rewritten ones (35).

Which WoW Forever class is closest to Classic? +

Mage: 14 of 54 talent slots are byte-identical to Classic Era (26%), with only 6 new talents and 1 removal. If you want the smallest relearning curve, start there.

Will these rankings change at launch? +

The counts will — every new beta build can move talents, and the pipeline re-syncs against each client export. When the trees shift, the numbers on this page shift with them, and the Updates page logs what moved. Treat this as a snapshot of the beta, not a launch-day tier list.
